FREE TOOL

Duplicate file finder

Pick files or a whole folder and see which ones are byte-for-byte identical, how many copies there are and how much space they use up. Your files stay on your device.

Find duplicate files

Includes all subfolders. Your browser may ask whether to "upload" the files: nothing is uploaded, the page only reads them. Choosing a folder is not supported in every browser, mainly on phones and tablets.

Files chosen one by one carry no folder, so choosing the same file twice lists it twice. Use Clear list to start again.

Good to know

  • Two files count as duplicates only if every byte is identical. Names and dates are ignored.
  • A file whose size differs from every other file cannot be a duplicate, so it is not read at all.
  • Files above 64 MB are read in small pieces so they do not have to fit in memory. They take longer, and you can cancel at any time. If this browser cannot read a very large file, it is listed as skipped.
  • Similar-looking images are not found. A photo that was resized, re-saved or converted is a different file, not a duplicate.
  • Nothing is deleted or moved. A web page cannot delete files on your computer, so remove the copies yourself.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop files or a folder in the box, or choose them from your device.

  2. 2

The page compares file sizes first and reads only the files that could be duplicates.

  3. 3

Check the groups, copy the report or download the CSV, then remove the copies yourself.

What stays private

  • On your device. The work happens in this page, on your computer or phone. Nothing you choose or type is uploaded or sent to a server.

  • No third parties. The tool code makes no network requests and uses no third-party scripts. The page itself is counted like any other page on this site, without cookies.

  • Gone when you close the tab. Results exist only in this page until you download them.

Where this fits in ContentCamel

Copies multiply when files travel by email and shared drives. ContentCamel keeps one governed library: replacing a file creates a new version instead of another copy, and older versions can be restored. See the product tour, or go straight to the free sign-up.
