Image metadata viewer and remover
Photos often carry details you cannot see: where they were taken, the camera and its serial number, names and dates. See what is in an image, then download a copy without it. Your image stays on your device.
View and remove image metadata
This image contains a GPS location
As plain coordinates:
This is where the photo was taken, as recorded by the camera or phone. Anyone who gets the original file can read it.
What can identify you
Fields in this image that can point to you, your device, or where and when the photo was taken.
Download a clean copy
PNG is lossless, so the quality setting does not apply.
What to know about the clean copy
- The image is redrawn on a canvas and saved again. This removes all metadata. The original colour profile goes too, so colours can shift slightly on some photos; the browser may add a standard sRGB profile in its place.
- JPEG and WebP are compressed again, so quality and file size change. PNG keeps every pixel but is often larger.
- The image is turned upright using its orientation tag, so it looks the same once the tag is gone.
- Animated images become a single still frame.
- Formats this browser cannot open, such as HEIC on many systems, cannot be cleaned here.
All metadata found
The viewer reads EXIF, XMP and IPTC, plus PNG text, from JPEG, PNG and WebP files and lists what it could parse. Camera maker notes are shown as present with their size, not decoded.
How it works
- 1
Choose an image or drop it in the box. It is read in this page, not uploaded.
- 2
Check the GPS location and the fields that can identify you, then look through the full list.
- 3
Pick a format and download the clean copy. The page reads the copy again to show that no EXIF, XMP or IPTC is left.
What stays private
On your device. The work happens in this page, on your computer or phone. Nothing you choose or type is uploaded or sent to a server.
No third parties. The tool code makes no network requests and uses no third-party scripts. The page itself is counted like any other page on this site, without cookies.
Gone when you close the tab. Results exist only in this page until you download them.
Where this fits in ContentCamel
Checking metadata before you share an image is a good habit. ContentCamel keeps a company's images in one governed library, previews them in the browser and records the licence type, rights holder and expiry for each asset. See the product tour, or go straight to the free sign-up.
